1. Happy Mother's Day


 Dear Fans,

Okay, Dads and kids.  It's your turn now.  It's getting around that time of year again...the day for pink carnations and red roses, and lots of pretty bows made with shiny ribbons.  Of course, you know, I mean the day reserved for dear, dear Mom.  And you know, I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice to give Mom, on this very special day, some cookies and brownies, made especially for her, by you.
When visions of sugar plums dance in my head, they are usually made of chocolate.  So, I am sharing with you today,  two recipes that I think your Mom will like, and which Dad and you will enjoy a taste or two (mostly two), as well.
However, one word of warning.  Please have dear ol' Dad around to help bake the cookies and to watch over things.
Wrap the cookies in a pretty box, or in a lovely glass jar, and write your feelings on a card.  And Mom will be so happy that kids were invented.

    1    can (14 ounces) condensed milk
    1    package (6 ounces) chocolate chips
    1/2    cup walnuts, broken in small pieces
    1 1/2    cups Graham Cracker crumbs
    1    teaspoon vanilla

In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients together until well blended.  Heavily grease a 6x12-inch baking pan.  Now it's Dad's turn to spread batter evenly in pan and bake at 350° for about 25 minutes.  Remove from oven and cut into
1 1/2-inch squares.  Remove from pan and allow to cool on a brown paper bag.  When cool, sprinkle with sifted powdered sugar.  Makes 32 delicious cookies.


    1    cup butter, softened
    2    cups sugar
    4    eggs   
    1/2    cup sour cream
    2    teaspoons vanilla
    1 1/2    cups flour
    1/2    cup cocoa
    1    teaspoon baking powder
    3/4    cup chopped walnuts
    3/4    cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
    3/4    cup miniature marshmallows

    In the large bowl of an electric mixer, beat together first 5 ingredients until blended.  Stir together the remaining ingredients, add to butter mixture all at once, and stir until blended.  Do not overmix.

    Spread batter evenly into a greased 10x15-inch baking pan and bake at 350° for about 30 minutes or until top looks dry and a cake tester, inserted in center, comes out clean.   Do not overbake.  Allow to cool in pan.  When cool, cut into squares to serve.  Yields 48 cookies.
