This is the buffet I planned for a charity opening of the movie "The Hunt for Red October" starring Sean Connery. It was a smashing success and though it was years ago, whenever I meet someone who attended the affair, they always mention how great a party it was.
The menu was printed on flaming red paper and inserted in matching envelopes. As more than 300 people attended the affair, the menus were distributed as the guests arrived. And from that moment on, the excitement began.
The frozen bottles of vodka were a bouquet of dark red roses on the bar. Champagne, caviar and smoked salmon stations were everywhere...the piroshkis were served warm on a tray. The excitement level was astonishing.
Dinner was easy to serve as the menu was basically simple but imaginative. The Kasha with Mushrooms and Onions was the perfect accompaniment to the Strogonov. The Russian Flatbread with Onions & Poppy Seeds and Cucumber Salad rounded out the menu. Dessert, the beautiful Vanilla Cheesecake with a hint of lemon and raspberries was a poem of flavors. The Chocolate Fudge Torte was fit for a Czar.
This is an easy menu to prepare and serve. Toast your guests with:
